Description: The University of Akron is looking for a dynamic and creative leader who can bring a strategic approach to the media relations effort. The Director of Media Relations will manage media outreach and implement strategies and tactics to enhance UA’s image and visibility and the public’s appreciation for the accomplishments of students, faculty and leadership in advancing the mission and vision of the University. You will direct the media relations staff to align media outreach with the goals of the University and to respond effectively to the needs of diverse media outlets. Working closely with the Chief Communications Officer, you will align external communications with campus communications to ensure consistency and effectiveness of messaging. You will be required to understand the rapidly-changing media landscape and adapt communications strategies to ensure increased positive visibility for the University in traditional and new media.  In addition you will assist in managing crisis communications processes and procedures, as well as other duties as assigned. You will need to be on call 24/7.The position requires a relevant bachelor’s degree, a minimum of five years of experience in media relations, public relations, or relevant communications, and the ability to work well with diverse constituencies. You will need excellent communications skills and the skill sets required for effective storytelling. Experience in direct supervision as the position is a first-line supervisor is required.
