Nicole Spears is the recipient of the 2013 PRSA Greater Cleveland Northeast Ohio PR Student of the Year Award. She is a senior at Ohio University and a Medina, Ohio-native.
PRSA GREATER CLEVELAND NAMES MEDINA NATIVE 2013 NORTHEAST OHIO PR STUDENT OF THE YEAR
The Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) today announced that Medina, Ohio-native Nicole Spears, a senior at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, was selected as the recipient of the Chapter’s 2013 Northeast Ohio Public Relations Student of the Year Award.
This $2,000 award recognizes an exceptional student majoring in either public relations or communications. Students attending a Northeast Ohio university or college or students who are residents of Northeast Ohio are eligible for the award.
“PRSA Greater Cleveland is committed to recognizing rising talent in the area and honoring these individuals for their hard work,” said Cari Steiner, co-chair of the scholarship committee for PRSA Greater Cleveland. “The Chapter hopes to cultivate a culture of Northeast Ohio pride, and help retain promising young professionals in this region.”
Spears will graduate in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications and a minor in anthropology and business administration. She is currently an intern at LaunchSquad, a public relations agency in San Francisco.
“We had a talented, diverse pool of award applicants this year,” added Melissa Carney, co-chair of the scholarship committee for PRSA Greater Cleveland. “The selection committee was impressed with Nicole’s professional experience, involvement in student organizations and academic success.”

Hennes Paynter Communications takes home “Best of Show”;
Falls Communications wins “Judges’ Choice”
CLEVELAND– Dec. 10, 2013 ― The Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) honored the area’s best in marketing and public relations at its eleventh annual PRSA Cleveland Rocks Awards on Fri., Dec. 6. This year, there were more than 130 entries across 31 categories, represented by agencies, corporations and non-profit organizations.
“Year after year, the Greater Cleveland public relations community delivers exceptional campaigns,” said Kelly McGlumphy, APR, director of client services at Roop & Co. and PRSA Greater Cleveland’s president and awards co-chair. “We are proud to acknowledge their work at the most anticipated event in the public relations community each year.”
Hennes Paynter Communications received the coveted “Best of Show” award for “Doing the Right Thing: How a Company’s Forthright Crisis Response Preserved its Reputation and Maintained Customer Confidence” on behalf of SeaStreak LLC in the crisis communications category. The “Judges’ Choice” award went to Falls Communications for “Haven DIY Blogger Conference,” a social media campaign on behalf of Moen Inc.
Annually, the Cleveland Rocks Awards acknowledge Northeast Ohio’s outstanding public relations programs, incorporating sound research, planning, execution and evaluation. Award winners demonstrate leadership in the public relations field and contribute to advancing the profession in Northeast Ohio.
Award entries this year were selected by the PRSA Richmond Chapter. Fahlgren Mortine once again served as the presenting sponsor of this year’s awards program.
2014 Hill Lighthouse Young Awards: Accepting Nominations
PRSA Cleveland is seeking the nominations for the most prestigious individual honors the chapter bestows:
• The John W. Hill Award recognizes outstanding leadership and support for internal and external communications by a chief executive. Nomination form
• The Lighthouse Award acknowledges the career accomplishments and community service contributions of a senior PR practitioner in Northeastern Ohio. Nomination form
• The Davis Young Award recognizes a member of the chapter who excels in mentoring students and young professionals through hands-on instruction and support. Nomination form

Winners will be recognized at a luncheon to be held in March 2014.
